About Massage

You may not realize it, but massage affects he cardiovascular system.

While you’ll find a list of services that we offer, what you won’t find is a list of different types of massage, all with different prices and explanations.  It’s not that we don’t do different kinds of massage.  It’s that no massage is ever the same, and you might need more than one approach during your time on our table.  It’s common in a lot of establishments to add on to the cost of your session if your massage turns into a deep tissue session, or you require cupping to work on a particularly stubborn area.  That’s not our philosophy.

Massage should make you feel good, but that’s not to say there won’t be discomfort along the way.  We don’t believe in the “No pain no gain” approach, but we also know that life brings stiffness, tight muscles, aggravated nerves, and pain.  We’re not here to cause you more.  Discomfort may be experienced while we work on you, but pain is a sign that something isn’t right.

We believe that all massage is therapeutic, and that’s why you’ll only ever find that we classify it as such.

Types of massage we practice:

Swedish

Typically referred to as relaxation massage, this is the most common type of massage offered today.  The ultimate goal of this type of massage is relaxation, and is typically done using a lighter touch than what is associated with Deep Tissue Massage.  However, what relaxes each of us is different, and you might like a firmer pressure to enhance your experience.  With a true relaxation massage, the only goal is to relax.  There isn’t a focus of addressing any ailment you may have.

Deep Tissue

often synonymous with Therapeutic Massage, it is the application of firm pressure and slower strokes to reach the soft tissue that’s not easily accessible from surface manipulation.  Deep Tissue often comes with a bit of discomfort as those buried layers of tissue are softened and manipulated, but pain is never the goal.  If something hurts, something is wrong.  We believe that a Deep Tissue Massage shouldn’t leave you limping for days.  We’re ok with just a couple of hours :)

Sports

There’s some overlap with sports and deep tissue massage as well, but sports massage is targeted to an athletic individual, and one who routinely participates at a high level.  The ultimate goal of sports massage is to improve performance, decrease the physical demands placed on an athlete’s body, and when injury occurs, aid in recovery (accelerate the process, reduce inflammation, reduce impact to the body due to the body’s natural inclination to compensate for an injury)

Trigger Point Therapy

We all know what it means to have a knot somewhere.  We can usually identify them on our own body, even if we can’t always reach them.  Knots, or Trigger Points, can also cause referred pain, so a pain that radiates down your arm may actually come from an issue with the muscles in your back.  Did you know that pain caused by your liver can be felt in your right shoulder?  Weird.

Aromatherapy

The use and application of essential oils to enhance relaxation, concentration, or healing.  Our lotions and oils typically have some scent to them that we feel is beneficial to our sessions, and we usually have the diffuser on in the room.  Please let us know if you have any known sensitivities or allergies to essential oils.  A trip to the ER for an allergic reaction isn’t therapeutic for anyone.
